Entry#9: Media Synthesize
Hello my fierce warriors, I am back again with some fun blogging! Today I want to discuss media and how it impacts my life on a day to day basis. I want to specifically discuss how I look at media now since being in college. I only use media as a form of entertainment. I don't use social media or other sites to express my emotions or vent, because I already have enough people in my life I trust to vent to. I am also a private person, and I hate others knowing my business until I choose to tell them. Now that I am in college English and we learn about rhetoric and credibility, I view media under less scrutiny. I have always hated the news because it is too depressing, and I never believed anything they say on the news to be true. Now, I understand that maybe some of the things they say on the news may be true, but they fail to make their information look credible and they fail to present people with all of the truth rather than just their version of the truth. Their rhetoric lacks organization.
My life and media intersect purely for entertainment or learning purposes. I am more open-minded to the things media shows because I try to understand their tone/voice, purpose, and audience. I look at these things because if what I am looking out on any media does not seem believable, I try to understand that maybe I am not part of their intended audience. If I was never apart of their intended audience, then the piece of media would not peak my interests in the first place.
Sometimes people who do not believe what they are seeing or reading in media, never researched the topic to begin with. You can not say someone is lying about something if you never researched the topic on your own time to get a better understanding. That is why now that I have been in 2 college English classes, I now understand that us as reader's need to read up or research on things we are not sure about. If we see something on any form of media that does not make sense to us, then we as reader's need to do our own research and not depend on others to do it for us. I have also noticed since being in college that people follow trends they see famous people using.
For Example, if Drake came on stage with a pink shirt and he received a lot of compliments on that shirt, then boys/men all over the world will go out and buy a pink shirt close to what Drake wore because they want that street cred, but if some normal boy was to go out wearing a pink shirt he would be labeled as gay. Famous people have a lot of power over their fans more today then ever before. My family now takes their fights to social media, and I never knew my family was this childish. I used to think what they put on social media was not specifically for one person, but now that I have learned about rhetoric, I now know that their posts are made for one person. I hope this world will turn less to media as years go by. We as people need to be more dependent on our knowledge to research, rather than dependent on media doing our research for us. That is all I have for you today guys. I hope everyone has a great day! Stay Beautiful!
